Trick OR Treat?! Halloween Photos, Moody Vibes + MORE!! | Pacific Northwest & Beyond
WOW…I feel like I jinxed myself in my last blog post lol!! The rain has finally arrived this season and from the looks of things won’t be going anywhere anytime soon, but that doesn’t mean photoshoots are at a halt or that fun Fall activities are limited, because with rain comes new beginnings. The rain washes away what once was to some degree, it’s presenting us with a new opportunity, one not many like to take.
So, with that in mind, we can’t just zoom on past one of my favorite holidays this season…HALLOWEEN!! Yes, you heard that right folks, I love me some ultra spooky vibes!! Thrillers, CANDY (omg don’t even get me started on candy, YUM), costumes and of course some witchy-themed photoshoots. Halloween is that time of year to think outside the box in a way we photographers don’t often plan or think about (unless spooky photography is your niche). As a boudoir, wedding and lifestyle photographer I love taking this time to do something super unique and fun with my clients.
I love when my clients bring masks, hats, or cloaks to add an extra spooky flare to their sessions AND can we talk about finding locations that fit with these types of shoots and how they’re just as important?! Using old buildings, fallen trees, lakes, rivers, or even waterfalls will have such an impact on how you’ll fully encompass your theme and overall goal.
But, if you’re not into dressing up or doing some cosplay for a photo session, yet still want that haunting moody aesthetic in your photos I got you covered!! Keeping it simple is oftentimes a challenge for photographers, we feel limited and are battling with how to add variety throughout our work in every photoshoot. So, simple but thematic sessions such as these, creates a nuance that acts like the caramel in a chocolate bar holding it all together. Use the darkness, the clouds, the fog of this season as nature’s stage for your haunting moody vibes, let the rain wash you away in its beauty.
Another holiday I find so beautiful is Día de Muertos (Day of The Dead), it’s a holiday that largely originated in Mexico and celebrates life through honoring and paying homage to loved ones we’ve lost. This holiday represents a time where the border between the spirit world and the world of the living mend, so we welcome the spirits of those we lost in a celebration of life just after Halloween on November 1st through November 2nd. Grief is something we don’t overcome, but with time learn to navigate and live with every day. Losing someone we love more often than not is a sad and difficult time for many in a variety of ways, but The Day of The Dead is a holiday that shines a light on what it means to grieve with those around you and to celebrate life no matter what we’re all going through.
Whether or not you celebrate Halloween or Day of The Dead, this season brings us reflection as we prepare for the New Year in just a few months. Reflect on how far we’ve come, reflect on the goals we may or may not have achieved yet this year, reflect on who you once were and honor who you’ve become today. The life we live is full of change, like the seasons, the seasons of this planet and the seasons in our lives. Embrace change and allow it to push you towards a new tomorrow.
One way I like to celebrate the present is through photography, we only have the now and we only have today, nothing is guaranteed so capturing fleeting moments in our lives through photography is like its own time capsule. We have a chance to create something beautiful for ourselves and loved ones, so don’t let these moments pass us by, booking a session with me will be something you’ll celebrate for years to come as you look back on those memories. I look forward to celebrating the holiday season with you through photography and making these memories last for years to come!! Stay safe out there, happy holidays and see you soon my friends!!
