It's time to Fall into Autumn with Portrait, Decor, + More | Washington and Beyond

Okay, so this Autumn season was really great…up until the smoke from all the fires started to engulf the PNW. Anyway, with Fall underway here in WA most of us are now grabbing our candles, spells or potions and cozying up in our knitted sweaters with a hot Pumpkin Spiced Latte, a sweet cider or spiced chai while watching Harry Potter or reading a good book by the fire.

Now that we’ve wiggled out of the wedding season we’re approaching the slower months that allow us to regroup and focus on our goals for next year. Fall, much like Spring, is a season of transition as we move into the cooler months and prepare for the holidays. For photographers, this is often a time for lots of organisation and long editing sessions and as much as we’d like to hibernate for Winter, we’re gonna knock it outta the park this season with galleries, mini sessions and those fun holiday family portraits or engagement sessions we all love.

This blog is going to dive into some of my favorite activities to do and decor pieces to use during Autumn, because everyone needs some timeless seasonal decor and fun things to do with family, friends and loved ones.

A Classic Pumpkin Patch Adventure;

Yes, as “cliche” or “cheesy” or some dare say “basic” as this activity may seem, kids love going to places like this during the Fall season. Fall is a time when kids are going back to school so this is a perfect family fun activity to get everyone outta the house and have some quality time together.

Going Hiking on Family Friendly Trails or Rockhounding Across a WA Beach;

Getting out of the city and hiking through the Olympic or Cascade National Forests is such a great way to have quality family time and enjoy nature. Another fun activity is rockhounding and some of the best places to rockhound in Washington are its beaches, rivers and streams. So, get out in nature during this time of year, the colors of the trees and the fresh crisp air is perfect for those Fall family adventures!!

Timeless Seasonal Decor Pieces That Subtly Stand Out More Than The Rest;

Textures = cotton waffle style hand towels in the kitchen, warm leathers in furniture items, soft wools in your clothes and flannel blankets are perfect materials and textures to start bringing into your spaces throughout your home. Raw or finished Earth materials like clay or ceramic vases, raw wood coasters or a kind of stone are perfect to add to any space.

Warm, Fuzzy, Toasty or Cozy Clothes to Wrap Ourselves Into;

This Autumn season has actually been a lot warmer than usual this time of year, but now that temperatures are starting to drop and the fog and rain roll in we’re pulling out our scarves, sweaters and boots. This brings me to my favorite clothing pieces I love all year but especially Fall = a cozy warm pair of denim jeans, thick soft fuzzy socks, toasty comfy sweaters and of course BEANIES!! I think beanies have been something I’ve seen less and less over the years, but I’m holding strong and will always love a good beanie.

Frankly, Fall is perfect for those fun family portraits at the pumpkin patch or a romantic surprise engagement session on your favorite trail with views for days. Whatever the occasion is this season I am here to capture those moments and turn them into memories for years to come. So, book your session with me today, let’s get those beautiful tree colors in before they’re gone!!
