The Boudoir Location, It Matters | Arizona, PNW & Beyond
LOCATION, but boudoir style!! A boudoir location can be tricky, I’ll admit, but per the mini series; location can be VITAL and worth talking about…AGAIN. For example, depending on where you are, and where I am, we can find some incredible locations or you can leave it all up to me to discover something that’ll work in our favor. Here are some location ideas and tips I often keep in mind for boudoir sessions to help you understand a little bit more about the importance of location.
Studio Sessions
Pro’s: Studios are the easiest, simplest, and one of the best ways to create boudoir photos. As your photographer I will always ensure to find a studio that works best for both of us (teamwork makes the dream work). Studios in Seattle are old, vintage and full of incredible shadows and texture that I absolutely love. Choosing the right studio is super important to me, and I want you to feel comfortable in your skin, so finding a safe and comfortable studio is essential. Here are some photos of my favorite studio spaces in the Seattle area:
Con’s: Depending on the area, some studios in Seattle can feel weird to approach and may gain an awkward first impression, BUT not to fret, I vet all my sources to make sure they are safe, creative and fun!!
*Side note: despite not owning my own studio yet, it allows me to rent out studio spaces anywhere and create more variety for these boudoir sessions.
*Side note to the side note: Due to the Arizona Relocation I am unsure what studio spaces look like but due to my research they look pretty amazing.
Hotel Sessions
Pros: If I’m traveling to your town, or we’re going to be near a place with no studio spaces available then a hotel might be a great option for us to consider since hotels can feel luxurious, sensual, and it may spark an idea for the next time you go on vacation with your lover. Sometimes they have cool glass showers, epic wallpaper, modern fixtures, and cute spaces to play around with, including incredible golden hour shots on a private patio or near the big windows overlooking the cityscape. This also includes the very custom and unique experiences one can have with Airbnb properties, the opportunities are ENDLESS with Airbnbs!!
Cons: But despite the opportunities, I’ll be honest, hotel sessions are not my favorite. Hotels aren’t always “cute” and can tend to be a little more cheesy or out of budget. That’s why finding the right studio space can make all the difference if hotels aren’t in the cards for us.
In Home Sessions
Pros: In-home sessions can be some of the most comfortable out of all of these options. Having me in your home can allow you to have a space that feels most comfortable to you. You are more familiar with the space, your furniture, the light and you have closet access for any spontaneous outfit changes or additions.
Cons: In Home sessions also come with some tricky things to consider, I don’t know your space like I know studio spaces therefore I may be needing a little more time to get the camera acclimated to the light and finding that sweet spot. However the comfort of your own home can mean relaxation and confidence for you to help shine throughout our session!!
Outdoor Sessions
Pros: Outdoor sessions are some of the MOST EXCITING out of all of these options thus far. Feeling one with nature is such an exhilarating yet peaceful experience and can make one feel extra beautiful. Being in nature is freeing and I love doing sessions in the great outdoors!!
Cons: Sadly, there’s simply no place to do hair and/or makeup, and depending on the spot we find we’re at the risk of running into strangers since nature is often in a public space
*Sidenote: one thing you could consider is reaching out to wedding venues that have lots of nature (i.e. trees/rivers/ponds/lakes, etc), to see if paying a small fee to photograph on and around their property is something that they offer.
Overall, location is KEY to capturing that sexy, beautiful and empowering shot!! As a photographer who specializes in boudoir photography my number one priority is to make sure you are comfortable, safe and excited to embrace your sensual side through boudoir photography. Leading up to your session in the planning process we can talk about what would be the best fit for you and what you are looking for in your session. Feel free to search through my photos and see what feels best to you, and how you want your photos to look.
