6 Tips for Crushing your Cherry Blossom Photoshoot! | Tips and Tricks | Seattle, WA
It’s becoming FLOWER SEASON! and in Washington everyone is flocking to the UW quad to capture the moments of the Cherry Blossoms!
So now is the time to book your cherry blossom sessions. Actually, you should have booked them a while ago, and should be shooting them now. But anyways, this is a guide that will help you plan in advance for next year’s blooming. These tips will help whether you book with a professional photographer or you want to go on your own.
1. Book way in advance. I know this can often be hard in the PNW when it comes to the spring blooms, however…. Photographers really want people to book in advance. So If you reach out early to photographers who do cherry blossom sessions you're more likely to get a session at the prime time. BUT more importantly be flexible. Because the changes in season’s and weather unpredictability its important for not only the photographers but the clients to be flexible. This allows us to make sure you're getting photos in the blossoms at the right time.
2. Know in advance that there will be lots of people. So if you do not like crowds I highly recommend going early in the morning. Sunrise, or just after is a prime time. But if you go anywhere from 9am to 5pm you are going to be confronted with MANY people. Especially if you are going to the UW quad.
3. Pick somewhere other than UW. As we all know UW is a spectacle. It's GORGEOUS especially in the midst of big large old brick buildings. HOWEVER because of its immense beauty its important to maybe think about other places. Here are some of my recommendations.
-The Capital of Washington in Olympia
There is a great article on parentmap.com with more on these locations!
Other Great spring flower areas include:
-Tulip festival in Skagit county
-Rhododendron Species Botanical Gardens
4. Be kind to everyone around while taking photos, be patient and be understanding that other people want photos too. Just a kindness comment. You may not be able to get the “perfect shot” but any photo with cherry blossoms are gorgeous.
5. Wear very simple clothing. Too many patterns in front of flowers is too much. UNLESS you're going for that vogue epic fashion style. Simple solid colors, or matching subtle patterns can make you stand out or look like you match the beautiful scenery. Peep the images included in this article of course.
6. Lastly, relax and have some fun. If you become too uptight, or irritated by the crowds you will lose all excitement and enjoyment of the flowers. This is just me being super honest with y’all! Cause ultimately you want to capture the rare moment of all these flowers blooming with gorgeous photos of you or you and your families.
